Van Gogh Irises Pendant

The Irises collection has been created for the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and is based on one of Vincent van Gogh's most well known floral still life paintings "Still Life: Vase with Irises Against a Yellow Background". Van Gogh painted this still life in the psychiatric hospital in Saint-Rémy. For him, the painting was mainly a study in colour. He set out to achieve a powerful colour contrast. By placing the purple flowers against a yellow background, he made the decorative forms stand out even more strongly. Van Gogh himself wrote in a letter "the [...] violet bunch (ranging from carmine to pure Prussian blue) stands out against a startling citron background, with other yellow tones in the vase and the stand on which it rests, so it is an effect of tremendously disparate complementaries, which strengthen each other by their juxtaposition." In the picture, the irises, which were originally purple, have turned blue as the red pigment has faded.
Materials: The Irises pendant is cast in hand patinated bronze and accented with hand cast glass flowers and vase.
