The Sugar Maple earrings take inspiration from the layered foliage of maple branches as autumn colour begins to spread through the leaves. Green gives way gradually to gold and copper, creating a richly varied canopy in which no two branches look quite the same. This recurring transformation has made the maple a natural expression of renewal, resilience and continuity through the changing seasons.

Fine brown oxidised bronze stems carry a tiered arrangement of smaller textured maple leaves, bringing extra detail to the dainty proportions. Green hand patination is interspersed with copper leaf and 24k gold plating to recreate the warmth and variation of autumn foliage. The branching composition introduces graceful movement when worn, giving these Sugar Maple earrings more botanical interest while retaining the light, refined character of the smaller-leaf designs.

Materials: The Sugar Maple earrings are cast in hand patinated bronze with a brown and green hand patinated finish, accented with a 24kt gold plating and copper leaf. The wires are 925 silver with a 24kt gold plating.

About our Jewellery

Our unique jewellery is made by creating moulds directly from botanical elements in a process similar to lost-wax casting. While traditional lost-wax casting begins with a hand-carved model of wax, Michael Michaud uses an actual leaf, branch or flower in place of the wax model. A mould is created around the botanical element and as it is heated the plant matter burns away and leaves behind a beautifully detailed mould of itself.

Michael Michaud

Artist Michael Michaud attended the Rochester Institute of Technology's prestigious school for American craftsmen, where he studied under designers Hans Christenson and Gary Griffin and became a master in the creation and manipulation of moulds. After graduating in 1980, Michael Michaud continued to perfect his craft while working under jewellery designers in the New York City area.

In 1991, he found himself working in New York City's flower district and living in the beautiful Connecticut countryside - his love of the natural beauty that surrounded him began to blend with his passion for creating jewellery which lead to the birth of Michael Michaud Jewellery.
