Malva is a genius of about 25 to 30 species of herbaceous annual, biennial, and perennial plants in the family Malvaceae bearing the common English name Mallow. The leaves, buds and flowers can be cooked as a vegetable or used in salads. It is one of the earliest cited plants in recorded literature and Horace mentions it in reference to his diet saying "As for me, olives, endives, and mallows provide sustenance".
