Beech (Fagus) is a genus of deciduous trees native to temperate Europe, Asia and North America. Beeches are monoecious, bearing both male and female flowers on the same plant. The first time Michael took his daughter to college at Salve Regina in Newport, Rhode Island, he admired an ancient beech tree on the campus. Michael collected the pod which became his inspiration for the Beech Nut collection.
